Some bits about me

My name is Tamás Győrváry. I have been working, creating, and repairing website code for more than 20 years. When I started, the popular browsers were Internet Explorer 4 and Netscape Navigator 4; mobile devices were used solely to make calls.

Since that time the world has changed a great deal, but my love for creating websites remains unchanged. Of course, knowledge always needs to be improved to keep up-to-date, but this is SITEBUILD.

Some bits about my latest projects

Since it's the portfolio page of a designer, it has a high quality look. Of course, to align with that, I recommended a high quality CMS system, too. Don't be fooled by the relatively simple structure, sliders always hold surprises for developers. But, it looks so good...

I should call this project a "ProcessWire TechDemo". The public view presents an individual design on almost every page, in order to max out the number of templates. Of course, speed optimization has been a default requirement. But under the hood... you couldn't imagine the number of special modifications of the engine.

Once, there was an old-style website and it had to be renewed. The new design is fresh and colorful, so the CMS had to be modern, too.

The old code wasn't bad at all, but pure PHP, with very limited admin features. With ProcessWire, it got a very easy-to-use admin interface, and Google  PageSpeed turned to 95/99.

Watches... Some people hate them, some have a full cabinet of them. This page is for those people.

It was a greenfield project, with an absolutely new brand, so the page style is absolutely fresh and new, too. We can discover the usual things, as we can imagine. Catalog, product filter, product pages, forms.

This website belongs to a friend of mine, with a new company, called IamIT. It used to be... let's start with a static page… oh, create another language, too... and let’s get ahead for the first place in Google, of course. By the way, can we edit the content?

I had to say, stop, wait a minute, give me a few days and there will be a great CMS with a variety of options. And here it is. Fast, responsive. Of course, due to the huge background videos and full-page slide style, it’s very hard to reach 100/100, but 85/85 is not bad at all.

Another great story and an interesting request. The content of the domain was gone and it needed to be recreated with the same content, the same design, and, if possible, a safer CMS. There wasn't any backup from the previous state.

I used the WaybackMachine and knew, if I was lucky, a snapshot of the old page would be there. And, except the font, there was. So, the page was built again in ProcessWire, and this is it.

It's a foundation site. There wasn't any specification about the backend. The only request was that the previously approved design should be on the web as a fast and responsive page.

This CMS is very easy to use, has a great admin layout, is very safe, and can be left alone without everyday system updates. It's a perfect solution for a landing page.

Another site with a redesign. The previous was a little old-looking and a modern banking service needs a modern landing page.

In the v1.0 specification, the plan was for the site to be self-hosted with WordPress, but due to the hosting capabilities, it was moved to wordpress.com. That's a great place, stable and fast, but the template, which had been working perfectly with the self-hosted downloaded version, had to be verified and modified to work well on this special environment, too.

One of my friends asked me to check his website, because it was slow. After I analysed it, we moved to another website hosting provider and replaced WordPress with ProcessWire, because for this functionality a real CMS seemed more appropriate.

Content, design, editable fields, and everything remained the same, but the site was nicely optimized for size and speed.

A little personal info, I was born in summertime. When I was asked if I would like to code this website about a summer camp, I immediately said yes.

Before, I had a pilot ProcessWire project with the client, and they were very satisfied with it. They requested this site be in this CMS, also. It's a simple presentation on an attractive page and pleasant to browse.

The third part of datad.at. Functionally it's very similar to the other parts, however, it was upgraded with Facebook features.

Visitors can login with their Facebook user account at the contact page, and a Facebook Chat Bot is waiting for them there for instant connectivity.

digitribe.me ProcessWire • offline

This page has not got fully new content, because the datad.at was the motherpage. I was asked to split the content into three domains. And, of course, the CMS had to be cloned.

A little design modification here, a little functional modification there, adding a new style for the blog, too, and in the end, everything is working perfectly.

Previously the page was a plain PHP site and with the redesign, the client would like to see a new CMS. I have offered ProcessWire, and after they checked the main site and my references, said yes.

Not a big page, but it was a good opportunity for them to learn a new system. I have attached at the end of the project a little self-made manual/how-to, as well. It was an effective outcome for both of us.

Every developer needs a simple project sometimes. Nice design, good project management, lovely client.

It was such a lovely project; thank you to everyone!

Every website needs a renewal periodically. The visitors must feel the care that goes into it, and they would like to see a new design, faster loading, and a more comfortable site overall.

Originally, the site ran under Drupal. It wasn’t slow, but since we switched to the ProcessWire engine, the speed-up has been eye-catching. With a little bit of design fine-tuning, it provided a new and better experience.

It was a fully customized, completely unique WordPress site with a template to serve brand new articles about Hungarian celebrities.

WordPress is a blog engine, I know. But after a lot of development, the journalists were able to use this version as a great article engine. The images were hosted on Amazon S3, the admin had a drag and drop title page sequencer, custom statistic page with graphs, and more.

rimbeajandekshop.hu Opencart • offline

The Internet is full of webshop engines. WooCommerce? A little bit vulnerable. Magento? It would be just a little shop. So, the choice was OpenCart.

As usual, the design was ready, but over time new requests for under the hood improvements emerged: bulk price changer, custom product designer, discount on next purchase, unique product option image, rewards generator, payment by card, automatic SEO friendly URLs... The list became very long. So, it's a little shop, but with a lot of fun unique features.

Some bits about the technology

HTML

HTML - Icon
HTML is the standard markup language for creating Web pages.

HTML is the base of your website. It needs to be clean, readable, optimized for search, optimized for speed, semantic. If the base isn't stable, the whole structure isn't stable.

CSS

CSS - Icon
CSS is a language that describes the style of an HTML document.

When the walls are already standing, it needs to be decorated. But on the web, it's not as simple as it seems. Tons of browsers, devices, people. A good CSS makes the website perfect for everyone.

Javascript

Javascript - Icon
JavaScript is the programming language of HTML and the Web.

JavaScript can be used for various tasks. The website can be more visual and more interactive or JavaScript can collect data, operate with content, and build the whole UX.

Images

Images - Icon
Images can improve the design and the appearance of a web page.

A page with a lot of images is very spectacular. A page with a lot of images can be very big too. So, it's very important to use images in a good way. Lazyload, Lazysizes, Srcset: there are many options to make the site spectacular, small, and fast at the same time.

CMS

CMS - Icon
A content management system (CMS) manages the creation and modification of digital content.

WordPress? Drupal? ProcessWire? Or...? The choice of a CMS is a hard thing. Depends on the client requests, server environment, nature of the content, previous client knowledge. You should always make a choice based on the nature of your project.
